Vytautas get first win, Lietuvos Rytas dominant against Juventus
After starting the Betsafe LKL campaign with nine losses in a row, Vytautas finally opened their win tally on Saturday evening, while Lietuvos Rytas eased past an injury-riddled Juventus squad in Vilnius.
The Virginijus Seskus-coached Prienai-Bristonas side, now 1-9, made easy work of Pieno Zvaigzdes, defeating the sixth-placed visitors from Pasvalys with an impressive 101-80 scoreline.
Having established a double-digit lead already in the first quarter, Vytautas cruised to a 21-point win thanks to their 17-of-31 shooting from three-point range, setting a new season-high for made triples in a single game.
Martynas Linkevicius led the winners in scoring with 22 points, Justas Sinica collected 21 points and 6 assists, while Tomas Dimsa finished the contest with 17 points.
For Pieno Zvaigzdes, who dropped to 4-6, Vyacheslav Bobrov had 22 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists, while Nikita Balashov chipped in with a double-double of 19 points and 10 boards.
In the other game of the day, Lietuvos Rytas edged Juventus 83-70 at home to improve to an 8-3 mark.
Jimmy Baron had a game-high 23 points for the winners, Rokas Giedraitis scored 17, with Travis Peterson and Loukas Mavrokefalidis also in double figures and adding 10 points apiece.
A 16-point and 8-rebound display by Laron Dendy and a 10-point contribution from Maksym Korniienko was not enough for Juventus, who are still in ninth place with a 2-9 record.
