Rytas hold off Pieno Zvaigzdes; Lietkabelis fall in Alytus
Pieno Zvaigzdes came short of an upset in Vilnius, with the Dainius Adomaitis-coached Rytas squeaking out a narrow 89-82 victory against the visitors from Pasvalys on Saturday evening.
The capital club pulled away late in the second half, improving to a 12-4 record in the Betsafe LKL with Croatian point guard Rok Stipcevic leading the way with a team-high 16 points and 5 assists.
Martynas Echodas and D.J. Seeley collected 14 points apiece, Arnas Butkevicius chipped in with 13 points and 6 rebounds, while Artsiom Parakhouski had 12 points in the win.
For Pieno Zvaigzdes, who dropped to 7-9 in the standings, Jay Threatt scored 21 points, while Dagoberto Pena connected on 5-of-8 attempts from three-point land for 17 points.
In the other contest of the day, the lower-ranked Dzukija picked apart Lietkabelis 85-68 in Alytus to move their marker to 6-10, while sending the visitors from Panevezys to 10-6.
Kendrick Brown left a mark in his farewell game for Dzukija with a game-high 19 points and 4 assists, Matas Jogela collected 14 points, 8 rebounds and 6 dimes, while Egidijus Dimsa scored 13 points and secured 6 boards.
Stefan Sinovec finished the contest with a team-high 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for Lietkabelis, as Ziga Dimec and Paulius Valinskas had 12 points each.
